Job Responsibilities
- Act in the capacity of a Registered Nurse in the assessment and care of patients admitted to the nursing unit in partnership with other team members and physicians. Conduct a rapid, systematic collection of data relevant to a patient's chief complaint, age, and social situation to obtain sufficient information to determine patient acuity and any immediate physical, psychological, or social needs.
- As the shift supervisor take responsibility for ensuring a cohesive and collaborative environment that promotes mutual respect and high-performance expectations among all team members. Be available to staff to address their questions, interpret policies, provide input on patient care, and deliver bedside care as needed. Resolve conflicts regarding or between staff, patient, family, and other ancillary personnel.
- Coach employees on their performance to remind and realign staff with expected behaviors and job responsibilities. Report information as needed to unit leadership.
- Precept and educate employees at multiple stages of skill and career development. Provide input and assist with annual skills day. Identify skills gaps and provide remediation for select employees or the unit in general.
- Make appropriate staff assignments for the shift based on staff competency and the acuity and needs of patients admitted to the unit. Round on patients to assess the appropriateness of assignments and care throughout the shift.
- Appropriately place patients on the unit and use SBAR format for giving and receiving report.
- Actively participate on hospital and unit committees as deemed necessary by the manager/director on a variety of topics related to unit processes and procedures that improve patient care delivery and outcomes.
- Serve as a liaison for information and problem resolution between unit management, unit staff, and other healthcare delivery team members, providing support and optimum care for patients.
- Ensure the Standards of Care, standards of Practice, Standards of Competency, Nurse Practice Act, TEAMSTEPPS, Standards of Excellence, and nursing policies and procedures are followed by the team members on the nursing unit.
- If applicable, function as testing personnel under CLIA1988 regulations as they relate to point of care testing.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: Graduation from an accredited nursing school
- Preferred: Bachelor of Nursing
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: Three (3) years current Medical Surgical clinical experience and two (2) years Charge Nurse experience
License/Certification Requirements
Minimum:
- Registered Nurse license valid to practice in the state of Indiana
- Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)
Preferred: Advanced certification in Medical Surgical nursing or other related area
