Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct oneself in a manner that demonstrates respect for individual dignity of patients, families, fellow associates and physicians and fulfills the mission and values of Riverview Health.
  • Must direct and check the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
  • Must comply with all applicable policies and procedures, including, but not limited to: all departmental and functional policy and procedure, maintaining acceptable attendance records, arriving for duty punctually, and following dress code.
  • Must participate in performance improvement activities as requested.
  • Must have appropriate knowledge of U.S. Pharmacopoeia 797 regulations, and follow as interpreted by DOP.
  • Must have knowledge and skills pertinent to the functional approach to patient care.
  • Must, when requested, perform the duties of the director in his/her absence.
  • Must interpret medication orders based on patient's age and clinical status.
  • Must utilize appropriate resources and references for checking appropriateness of medication order, based on patient's age and clinical status as needed.
  • Must perform calculations for special dilutions or formulations of medications as needed.
  • Must prepare special dilutions or formulations of medications as needed.
  • Implement activities necessary for attainment of pharmacy objectives.
  • Must prepare intravenous solutions using aseptic techniques.
  • Must perform duties as an active member of the healthcare team.
  • Must demonstrate a knowledge of team dynamics and contribute to team building and skills related to participation in and strengthening of the multidisciplinary team approach to the delivery of patient care.
  • Promote a sense of team spirit by creating a culture of mutual respect and high performance expectations among all team members.
  • Must assist in procuring, maintaining, and storing an adequate inventory of medications.
  • Must be able to perform clinical dosing programs established by the pharmacy.
  • Be an active participant in daily huddle passing information to other staff members.
  • Must maintain required state and federal records for controlled substances and fill floor stock requests for controlled substances.
  • Must meet with drug company representatives to obtain information about products.
  • Must practice good interpersonal skills with employees and customers.
  • Must assume information management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills to relate effectively and compassionately with physicians, patients, other staff members and patients' families.
  • Must communicate effectively with Medical staff regarding appropriateness of medication orders related to the patient's age or clinical status as needed.
  • Must communicate effectively with Nursing staff regarding special instructions for administration and/or monitoring medications related to the patient's age or clinical status.
  • In addition to functions above, must perform other functions as deemed necessary by the Director of Pharmacy.
  • Performs lab testing according to CLIA'8


Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Pending Pharmacy degree from an accredited university, as required by law. Must be completed prior to start of residency year.


License/Certification Requirements

  • State Issued License
  • Type of Specialty Certification or other Licensure, if required: - Pharmacist, no later than September 1 of the PGY1 residency year. Pharmacist Intern, from date of hire until licensed as pharmacist in the state.
